Graduate Student – Timothy Brackins Tim is a first-year graduate student in the cognitive PhD program. He is interested in studying individual differences, working memory, goal-directed executive functioning and the mediation of cognitive decline across the lifespan. Lab Manager- Julia Kearley Julia graduated with her M.A. in Experimental Psychology from Iona College, focusing on neuroscience research. She is very passionate about investigating hippocampal memory processes and how performance on hippocampal-dependent tasks may mediate age-related declines in cognition. Undergraduate Researchers: We also welcome three new talented undergraduate researchers, Jackie Ho, Amanda Truppo and Joli Vidal. Jackie is majoring in psychology (B.A.) and minoring in computer science and digital arts. She is excited to investigate how we can develop accessible technological solutions to help individuals in their everyday lives. Amanda is also a psychology (B.A.) major and is minoring in medicine health and society. Over the 2019-2020 academic year, 5 undergraduate research assistants in the CAM Lab have graduated from SBU! We're so proud of our students and we are excited to see what's in store for them! Here's what some of them are up to next:
Kate Aufort: Starting in June, Kate is beginning the occupational therapy program at Tufts University. She hopes to continue working with older adults in her future clinical career. Santhosh Koduri: Santhosh will be staying at Stony Brook for another year to complete SBU's Fast Track MBA program to complete his MBA in Healthcare Management. After that, Santhosh plans to begin medical school! The CAM lab is hiring a full-time research assistant. Students who have earned their Bachelor's degree by June 30, 2020 and who have relevant experience or coursework in psychology, neuroscience or a related field are encouraged to apply. Students with an interest or experience in human subjects research, cognitive aging, neuropsychological testing, fMRI, and/or programming would be particularly well-suited for this position. Visit this site to learn more about the position and to apply. Please contact Dr. Richmond via email with any questions or for more information.
A new paper from the CAM Lab, in collaboration with Dr. Alexandra Morrison from California State University-Sacramento was just published in the Psychonomic Society journal Cognitive Research: Principles and Implications. This study was a registered report replication and extension of previous work focused on cognitive offloading behaviors. This is an open-access publication, so feel free to check it out here.
We've got a busy day of interesting talks lined up on Friday, 10/4! See talk flyers below, and plan to attend either or both if your schedule permits!
The CS area is recruiting PhD students for Fall 2020 start in our program. See below for more information on faculty research interests and program information. Application deadline is 12/1.
The CAM lab has been busy this summer gearing up for a few new studies that have just launched or will be starting in the fall semester! In addition, our first poster containing data collected here at SBU has been accepted for presentation in November at the Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society, and we hope to be able to share the publication on this work soon!
We are also welcoming a few new lab members this fall, in addition to welcoming back some familiar faces. Have a look at our "People" page if you'd like to read more about the members of our lab. We'd like to extend a special welcome to our new grad student, Katie Burnett, and our new undergraduate researchers Kate Aufort and Michael Igbanugo! Happy to have you joining the team. For now, enjoy the last few remaining weeks of summer! |
